 Rio Grande School serves students from three years old to grade six, with class sizes ranging from 16-22 students, a 6:1 student educator ratio, and a total school population of 170. Located at the base of the Sangre De Cristo Mountains on five acres of high desert, surrounded by arroyos and hiking trails, Rio Grande School is perfectly situated for students to engage with both the natural wonders of the outdoors and the academic rigors of the classroom.

The school is seeking candidates for the following positions beginning in August 2024: 

 

Front Office Coordinator & Administrative Support

 

The Front Office Coordinator & Administrative Support position is a full-time, 12-month hourly  position reporting to the Head of School. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, enjoy working with adults and children, amenable to completing required tasks, and understand the school’s essential role in educating children socially and academically. This position requires discretion and the ability to manage the workday independently with efficiency.

 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

Oversee the smooth functioning of the front office to ensure that all constituents are informed of their day-to-day responsibilities. 

  • Be the primary point of contact for all visitors, faculty, staff, and students.
  • Answer the phone and direct calls to appropriate staff members.
  • Assist school Administration as required.
  • Development and oversight of After School Activities Program 
  • Administer basic first aid as needed and attend to ill children.
  • Act as the primary purchasing agent for the school. 
  • Attend all Administration and Faculty meetings to take meeting notes.
  • Monitor student attendance and inform parents/guardians.
  • Track student immunization records and compile the annual report for the NM Department of Health.
  • Manage the hot lunch program.
  • Event support as requested. 
  • Manage annual student class and individual photos.
  • Manage the student and family contact information in the Student Information System, Veracross, to ensure that all are up to date and accurate. 
  • Manage field trip forms and parent driving records.
  • Provide assistance to the Board of Trustees as needed.  
  • Register faculty for professional development and arranging travel as requested.
  • Maintain and manage the school calendar.
  • Stock and organize the front office, entryway, infirmary, and kitchen.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge, Skill, and Ability Requirements:

Established related work experience.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of office operations.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
  • Computer knowledge, including the Google Suite of products.
  • Discretion

  • Exceptional organizational skills.
  • Motivated to comply with deadlines with accuracy and professionalism.
  • Ability to pass a background check.

 

Supervision:

  • Reports to the Head of School.
  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

 

Associate Educator (20 hours) 

 

The Associate Educator at Rio Grande School is a half-time, 10-month position beginning in August 2024. 

 

Compensation for the above positions will be determined by years of teaching experience and highest degree earned. Qualified individuals ideally have, at a minimum, a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a minimum of two years experience in the classroom.

 

Under the direction of the Lead Educator, the Associate Educator will support classroom instruction and management in the following areas:

 

  • Instructing students individually and in groups, using a variety of instructional strategies; adapting teaching methods and instructional materials to meet the varying needs and interests of students;
  • Implementing accommodations and modifications to classroom curriculum to meet student learning needs;
  • Collaborating with co-curricular educators to implement integrated curriculum; preparing materials and classrooms for class activities;
  • Enforcing rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among the students for whom they are responsible.

Substitute Teacher

The Rio Grande School seeks dynamic, positive, collaborative individuals to be substitute teachers. Rio Grande School is a coeducational, nonsectarian independent elementary school for students in pre-kindergarten through sixth grade. Substitute teachers must be able to provide a positive experience for elementary-age children, maintain safety and discipline, and follow sub plans. Qualified individuals will have at least 2 years of experience working with children in this age group.
